The downside to the simulation is that the Album/Events can only be sorted automatically by Title. When you click on the iPhoto Events folder you'll get a simulated iPhoto Events window. It will appear just above the iPhoto Events folder where you can drag it into the iPhoto Events folder

Perhaps using Dropbox to upload iOS photos and then deleting originals? Or Image Capture, which would require a physical connection to the Mac? All suggestions gratefully accepted. Photo Mechanic can embed XMP data into raw files (unlike Adobe products) Im not saying this is the issue, but I would check the preferences in PM and see if.

I have multiple devices (two desktops, a laptop, an iPhone and an iPad) and my goal is to manage all that with iCloud photo library, but have the issue of it scooping up my iOS photos as well as distributing my Mac Photos library around my devices. I'm not averse to doing that, but looking for easiest way to accomplish the transfer of iOS photos without screwing up iCloud photo library. Bring photos into Mac, triage, rename and move into folders using Photo Mechanic, and then import into photo app of choice. If I cannot change the filename directly in Photos app, I am willing to use the same workflow I use for Lightroom. I would like to integrate photos from iOS into that organizational system, but need to be able to change the filename to do so. Most of my photos are exported from Lightroom with filename of date.time and sorted into date folders.
